The Importance of Truly Listening

If you are an auditory learner, the ability to hear is vital, but the ability to listen is even more important. Just as most of us can read, most of us can hear. Some of us can read with effective comprehension. Some of us can listen with effective comprehension.

Listening = Hearing + Comprehension

We could define hearing as the perception of sounds through auditory stimulation. To raise the old philosophical question:

If a tree falls in the forest and there’s no one there to hear it, does the falling tree really produce a sound? The answer to this question was always a subject for debate in Philosophy 102! There were those who said that no sound was produced, since no auditory stimulation had been perceived by anyone.
